Question about BO hemolysis?

Patient's question:

Hello, my wife is AB blood type, and I am O blood type. Is it easy for our child to suffer from ABO hemolytic disease? What kind of assistance do you need: Tell me the results...

Doctor's answer:

Hemolytic disease is primarily a hereditary genetic disorder of type II hypersensitivity, arising from blood type incompatibility between mother and child, leading to autoimmune reactions. The dominant antigen inherited by the fetus from its grandparents is one that the mother lacks. When this antigen enters the mother's body, it produces immune antibodies (IgG), which can cross the placental villi into the fetal bloodstream. These antibodies bind to receptors on the surface of fetal red blood cells, activating the complement system and causing the destruction of red blood cells, leading to anemia, edema, hepatosplenomegaly, and progressive severe jaundice shortly after birth, potentially even resulting in bilirubin encephalopathy.
