Features: The content of this book is selected from radio broadcasts, TV news, and adapted newspaper articles from English-speaking countries. The editor first screens these materials, refining them based on the characteristics, interests, and needs of Chinese students, then organizes them into units according to style and difficulty. At the beginning of each unit, there is a brief introduction that explains some features of the involved style and provides tips for understanding this type of English. Before each lesson, the editor lists new words or phrases based on the lesson content, aiming to prepare learners for the material they will hear so they can quickly immerse themselves in the context. Listening exercises mainly consist of multiple-choice questions and paraphrasing the main idea in both Chinese and English. The purpose of this approach is twofold: to meet students' exam preparation needs and to prepare them for future foreign affairs and interpretation work. It is already challenging to paraphrase a passage in English, and doing so in Chinese is even more difficult. To facilitate paraphrasing exercises, the editor has rewritten and shortened dialogues, radio dramas, short stories, and impromptu conversations in the book, providing reference material for learners to study while listening to recordings and paraphrasing the main idea.
