The fifth edition won the First Prize of the National Excellent Teaching Materials Award for Higher Education Institutions from the Ministry of Education. Under the guidance and organization of the National Higher Medical Education Textbook Construction Research Association and the Textbook Office of the Ministry of Health, the sixth edition has been revised and written. The authors of this book were selected and invited by the Textbook Office of the Ministry of Health from among experts in internal medicine across the country. Each chapter was written by renowned experts in the field and was reviewed and revised repeatedly by experts before being finalized. Therefore, although the book is not very long, it is concise, scientifically rigorous, accurately defined, conceptually clear, structurally sound, well-supported, and its sources are reliable, reflecting the latest developments. The authors are all experts with rich clinical experience, so the content is clinically practical and highly operational, serving as a guide for clinical work. This book is primarily intended as a textbook for undergraduate students in medical and pharmaceutical colleges across the country. However, it is also an excellent reference for clinical physicians and is very suitable for those preparing for the National Medical Examination and postgraduate entrance examinations. Based on the fifth edition, the following revisions have been made: ① The content of each chapter has been updated, and materials from evidence-based medicine and diagnostic guidelines have been introduced; ② Some chapters have been added, such as sleep apnea syndrome, thrombolytic and anticoagulant therapy for cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, etc.; ③ Keeping pace with the times, the names and definitions of many chapters have been updated as necessary; ④ Many chapters have been completely rewritten or revised. During the revision process, we were greatly supported and guided by relevant departments of the Ministry of Health and by medical colleges. The experts who participated in the writing worked in close collaboration. Academic Secretary Dr. Li Guangran made significant and effective contributions in standardizing terminology and units, organizing and proofreading manuscripts, and compiling indexes. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of them. Professors Chen Guozhen, Chen Haozhu, and others, who served as the chief editors of the first to fourth editions, contributed to making this book a prestigious authoritative textbook with their profound academic expertise and rigorous scientific attitude. They set an example and provided motivation for us to continue editing this book. Here, we pay them the highest respect. The heads of each section are (listed in order of section): Wang Chen, Lu Zaiying, Hu Pinjin, Ye Rengao, Xie Yi, Fu Zushi, Dong Yi, and Qin Guixi. Due to limitations in our level and time, there may be many shortcomings in this book. We sincerely hope that readers will not hesitate to offer their advice and corrections.
