Features: In compiling this series, we have focused on two aspects. On the one hand, in selecting books, we strive for comprehensiveness, novelty, representativeness, and forward-thinking. We do not favor a single viewpoint or limit our selections to books published by a single foreign publishing house. While the core disciplines of linguistics and applied linguistics are given due attention, branch disciplines are not overlooked. Corpus linguistics and linguistic statistics are emerging fields, and we have included monographs on them; syntax and semantics, though long-studied, have also been selected for their newest works. On the other hand, we have invited renowned domestic supervisors and master supervisors to write prefaces for each book, paving the way for readers. The works in linguistics and applied linguistics are vast and rich, and beginners may find them overwhelming. To assist them, each book in this series has been accompanied by approximately 10,000 words of expert-written introductory materials. Even if the book content is unfamiliar, anyone who reviews the introductory materials before and after reading will surely grasp the key points and understand the structure. This book serves as a guide to contemporary semantic theory, primarily reflecting the achievements of scholars from universities in Europe, especially the University of Lancaster in the 1990s, in the construction, development, and research of corpora. It is also dedicated to one of the pioneers of corpus linguistics by 27 contributors from universities in the UK, Norway, Germany, Sweden, and other countries, as well as the editors and publishers. It plays a positive role in advancing linguistic teaching, research, foreign language teaching, and research in China. New disciplines include the history of linguistics, the philosophy of language, cognitive linguistics, anthropological linguistics, the origin of language, and chemical syntax theories. It includes influential works by contemporary linguistic masters such as Saussure, Sapir, and Bloomfield, adding higher authority.
