Child has been having rectal pain at night for the past three days

Patient's question:

The hands always want to grab the buttocks, mental state is okay, appetite is okay, but after drinking milk they always say their stomach hurts, deep sleep is also okay, bowel movements are relatively dry, urination is normal, weight fluctuation is nothing. Usually it happens at night. Past treatment history and effectiveness: No treatment has been given yet. What kind of assistance is desired: Want to ask why this is happening? Is it a disease? Does it need to be treated?

Doctor's answer:

1. All of these imidazole-class compounds are effective. For example, albendazole (brand name: Intestinal Clean) with a 400mg single-dose regimen has a cure rate close to 100%, but pinworm infections are prone to self-reinfection. Therefore, a second treatment should be administered 2-4 weeks after the initial treatment.
2. Mebendazole (brand name: Pinworm Eradicator) is taken at a dose of 5mg/kg for children and a maximum total dose of 250mg for adults, once at bedtime (the tablets must not be crushed). To prevent recurrence, a second dose should be taken after an interval of 14 days. It is highly effective with few side effects, though occasional nausea and vomiting may occur.
3. Thiabendazole for adults is taken at a dose of 250mg, while children's dosage is 5mg/kg. It should be administered once on a half-empty stomach. It has a significant effect in expelling pinworms.
