Publishing such a large-scale collection of linguistic works in just a few months is rare in the history of academic publishing in China. Since its publication, many institutions and individuals have rushed to order. Graduate and undergraduate students regard the series as a valuable guide, while teachers of all ages consider it a source of knowledge renewal. Practice has proven that the series introduced by FLTRP (Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press) has received widespread praise from the academic and foreign language teaching communities in China. It will become a treasure trove for advancing linguistic teaching and research, as well as foreign language teaching and research in China. Building on the success of the first batch of 54 volumes, FLTRP now presents the second batch of 58 volumes. The second batch of the series features five key characteristics:
1. Comprising 58 original English works, the series now covers 33 disciplines, an increase from the original 26, including newly added fields such as the history of linguistics, the philosophy of language, cognitive linguistics, anthropological linguistics, the origins of language, and chemical theories of grammar. This broader scope better meets the needs of readers.
2. It includes influential works by contemporary linguistic giants such as Saussure, Sapir, Bloomfield, Halliday, Chomsky, Austin, Grice, and Leech, ensuring higher authority.
3. It incorporates classic linguistic works published by renowned international publishers such as Oxford University Press and Harvard University Press.
4. It continues to feature expert introductions, with an even stronger team of experts compared to the first batch.
5. The series is prefaced by the renowned linguist Professor Noam Chomsky and the distinguished linguist Professor Shen Jiashun from China.
This series is a large-scale, open-ended collection, which will play a positive role in advancing linguistic teaching and research, as well as foreign language teaching and research in China. In the future, FLTRP will continue to introduce works, striving to provide readers with the latest and most influential linguistic and applied linguistic works from abroad.
