Features: "Modern Network Communication Technology" was written in response to the rapid development of computer network technology but the lagging of teaching materials, as well as the lack of comprehensive textbooks and monographs on network communication subnetwork technology. The purpose of compiling "Modern Network Communication Technology" is to guide and train students in analyzing and understanding network architecture using the layered structure approach and the "in-band/out-of-band signaling" technology. By combining network and communication technologies, it helps students grasp the development trends of modern computer network communication subnetworks. Through the analysis of layered protocols, students can understand the basic techniques of network protocols. For this reason, in addition to the necessary discussion of basic techniques, this book also introduces a large number of high-speed network communication technologies. ① In terms of high-speed backbone network communication technology, it provides a detailed discussion of technologies such as Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH), Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Frame Relay (FrameRelay), and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM). ② In terms of high-speed access technology, it focuses on various digital subscriber line technologies (XDSL), cable modem technology (CableModem) used on coaxial cables, and HomePNA technology. ③ In terms of local area network or campus network technology, it focuses on the significant technical changes in technologies based on IEEE 802.3 (commonly known as "Ethernet") as transmission rates increased (from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps in 2002), including full-duplex technology, auto-negotiation technology, flow control technology, priority technology for data transmission, virtual local area network (VLAN) technology, and various switching technologies. ④ In typical wide area network (WAN) technologies, it focuses on the communication subnetwork technology of B-ISDN and the Internet (basic protocols, control protocols, quality of service (QoS) issues, and system interconnection issues). Mastering this knowledge will help adapt to the new trends of the 21st-century network, such as digitalization, high-speed, multimedia, and the integration of three networks. It will also assist in participating in the construction of China's information infrastructure (NII) and information superhighway. This book is designed as a textbook for undergraduate and graduate students in engineering and computer-related fields. The entire book is self-contained, and even students who have not taken any courses in computer networks or communication technology can systematically master the basic techniques and development trends of computer networks through this book. Instructors can tailor the content of the textbook according to the learning objectives and focus of their students. For teaching convenience, each chapter includes references and thought-provoking exercises. This book can also serve as a self-study reference for engineering and technical personnel engaged in the application, design, and implementation of computer networks.
