Features: The Collected Essays is a book that "speaks the truth," and Mr. Ba Jin has been hailed as the "conscience of contemporary Chinese intellectuals." The book has been reprinted nine times to date, with cumulative sales exceeding 100,000 copies. In 1994, it won the First National Book Award, exerting a profound influence on both intellectual circles and the reading public. On the occasion of Mr. Ba Jin's centenary, our store has re-edited and reprinted The Selected Essays from The Collected Essays, included in the "Commemorative Anthology of Mr. Ba Jin's Centenary," as a tribute to him, and to honor his nearly eight decades of literary career and outstanding social contributions. It also commemorates his connection with the China Association for Promoting Science and Technology Press.
The Selected Essays from The Collected Essays contains ninety-eight essays, organized into five sections based on content and themes:
Section 1: Critiques and Reflections on the Cultural Revolution;
Section 2: Reflections on Reality and Social Commentary;
Section 3: Nostalgic Reminiscences of the Past and Tributes to Friends and Family;
Section 4: Autobiographical Accounts of Literature and Literary Reflections;
Section 5: International Cultural Exchanges.
Additionally, nine appendices—such as prefaces and postscripts—are included to provide context for the author's writing during that era and to convey his intentions. By grouping essays with similar themes, we hope to achieve the effect of "resonance between like minds" and facilitate readers' comparative understanding.
