Features: This book includes nearly 20,000 idioms. The entries are divided into main entries and supplementary entries. The main entries are the primary and commonly used forms of the idioms, and this book provides comprehensive and precise explanations of their pronunciation and meaning. The supplementary entries are synonymous or near-synonymous forms of the main entries. To avoid repetition, only obscure characters and words in the supplementary entries are explained. For easy reference and to draw attention, the supplementary entries are enclosed in quotation marks and marked with a horizontal line, such as: ", also written as ‘’". This book strives to explain idioms in a concise and clear manner while ensuring comprehensiveness and precision. Generally, it first explains individual characters and words, followed by a connected explanation, or it first explains the original meaning and then discusses extended and metaphorical meanings, aiming to combine both decomposition and interpretation, as well as original and metaphorical meanings. To assist in explaining the connotation, usage, and evolution of idioms, this book cites textual evidence for most idioms, but omits those that are easily understood. To purify the national language and cleanse the public's minds, this book excludes idioms that carry obscene connotations or express obscene phenomena. The entries in this book are arranged by syllable. For idioms that begin with the same single character, explanations are listed separately based on pronunciation or tone variations. After the "Index of Initial Syllables of Entries," there is an "Index of Stroke Counts of Entries" for readers to consult.
