How do I deal with my 10-year-old son's pitted fingernails?

Patient's question:

My son is 10 years old. I don't know when his fingernails became rough and uneven. They also peeled off in layers. After a thorough examination at the hospital, the calcium level was 2.26, and the other doctors said everything was fine. It's been a while, and it wasn't as severe as it used to be. They still recommended calcium supplements.
Previous treatment history and effectiveness:
No specific treatment was given.
Help received:
I want to know for sure whether it's due to calcium or zinc deficiency.

Doctor's answer:

This parent, to find out if there is a deficiency of trace elements, first needs to go to the hospital for a blood draw and undergo a trace element test. Additionally, a vitamin D check should also be performed. If there is a deficiency of D, calcium in the body will not be properly metabolized. Uneven fingernails indicate that the child's nutritional status is not very balanced, and the immune system may be weak. Or, after a recent illness, there may also be additional reflections on the fingernails.
