Patient's question:
My baby was diagnosed with cytomegalovirus infection at the hospital last month and received intravenous fluids for half a month. However, the virus did not decrease. Can cytomegalovirus infection heal on its own? Will it affect future life?Doctor's answer:
Cytomegalovirus infection is a congenital or acquired infectious disease caused by cytomegalovirus (CMV). The clinical manifestations and outcomes of cytomegalovirus infection are closely related to the individual's immune function status. Individuals with normal immune function may become infected with CMV through close contact with an infected person's secretions, often presenting as asymptomatic infection, while some may exhibit mononucleosis-like symptoms. Individuals with immune deficiencies may become infected with CMV or experience reactivation of CMV due to surgery (blood products) or organ transplantation, which can lead to involvement of one or multiple organs, most commonly interstitial pneumonia, hepatitis, gastroenteritis, retinitis, etc. Ganciclovir can be used to treat cytomegalovirus infection.
