Is it useful for jaundice to drink glucose water?

Patient's question:

I don't know what's going on, but my child has been misbehaving and crying non-stop lately. Even the hospital check-ups haven't helped. I was wondering if giving jaundiced babies glucose water is useful.

Doctor's answer:

Your condition may be due to physiological jaundice. In mild cases, jaundice appears as a light yellow hue limited to the face and neck, or may extend to the trunk, with sclera also becoming yellow. It usually subsides within 2 to 3 days and the skin color returns to normal by the 5th to 6th day. In severe cases, jaundice similarly starts from the head and spreads to the feet, affecting the entire body. Vomitus and cerebrospinal fluid may also turn yellow, with the duration lasting more than a week. In some premature infants, it may persist for up to 4 weeks, with the stool still appearing yellow and no bilirubin in the urine. It is recommended to use blue light therapy, which can be effective.
