Selected English-Chinese Dictionary

Features: Since its first publication, this dictionary has been widely welcomed by readers both in China and abroad, with over one million copies sold. As the times progress, society advances, science and technology evolve rapidly, and new phenomena emerge constantly, English has also introduced numerous new words, meanings, and usage. In light of this, we have thoroughly revised the dictionary. The revised edition is a translation of the Oxford Pocket Student Dictionary published by Oxford University Press in the UK, edited by MARTIN H. MANSER, and supplemented with new words. The entire dictionary contains approximately 26,000 entries, including words, idioms, phrasal verbs, compound words, and derived words. Due to the increasing use of American English, differences in spelling, pronunciation, and usage between American and British English are noted in the revised edition. The revised edition also highlights collocations of verbs, nouns, adjectives, and prepositions, further enhancing the practical value of the dictionary. Chinese definitions are annotated with Pinyin and accompanied by relevant traditional characters. English pronunciations use Jones's Pronunciation Symbols and the International Phonetic Alphabet, with detailed pronunciation instructions provided in the "Pronunciation Guide" at the beginning of the main text. The revised edition of the Selected English-Chinese Dictionary retains and improves upon the original edition's concise and practical content, compact and clear layout, and portable design. It serves as both a reference for Chinese readers learning and using English and a toolbook for English learners and users abroad studying and applying Chinese.
