Features: This "Introduction" is not for students, but for future teachers; even future teachers should not expect it to systematically elaborate an existing science, but should first return to explore this science. My purpose is to persuade all those who believe that metaphysics has research value to convince them that it is very necessary to pause their work, to regard everything done so far as never having been done, and to first raise the question, "Is metaphysics at all possible?" If it is a science, why can it not, like other sciences, gain universal and lasting recognition? If it is not a science, why can it continue to claim to be a science, and why has it always failed to satisfy the boundless hopes placed in it by human reason?
