What should I do if my child is about to turn 2 and the testicles have been different since birth?

Patient's question:

The child is about to turn 2 years old. Since birth, the testicles have been uneven in size. Today, I had an ultrasound, and one side hasn't grown at all. What kind of interference will this cause for the child in the future?

Doctor's answer:

Based on the situation you described above, the two-year-old boy was found to have one testicle larger than the other. After a thorough ultrasound examination, one testicle was not detected. In this case, it should be considered as unilateral cryptorchidism, or a condition where one testicle is absent. If the other testicle is of normal size, and blood tests show that the testosterone levels are within the normal range, then there will be little interference to future growth and development and fertility.
