Patient's question:
My baby is seven months old and has recently had some yellow tongue coating. They haven't been eating well and weigh 14 pounds. Additionally, when they nurse or drink water, they urinate only a little, and the urine is slightly yellow. Tests came back normal. Could you please ask Dr. Guan why this is happening and how to treat it?Doctor's answer:
As you mentioned, your baby weighs 14 pounds. It is important to provide your baby with a planned and scientifically balanced diet, including complementary foods. Complementary foods can be introduced when your baby is four months old. Generally, babies around 7-8 months can transition to whole egg custard. Feed thick porridge twice a day, each time a small bowl (about 6-7 tablespoons). You have already started adding vegetable puree 2-3 tablespoons at a time, gradually reducing it to 3-4 tablespoons. You can also alternate adding a little minced meat to the porridge. Breast milk (or other dairy products) should be fed 3 or 2 times a day, with complementary foods being given first, followed by dairy products. Additionally, you can let your baby chew on small pieces of bread (1/2 piece) or biscuits to promote dental development. It is important to give your baby plenty of plain water.
