Features: The second edition explains that heat treatment is one of the key processes in the machinery manufacturing industry, playing a vital role in improving the performance of parts, tapping the potential of materials, saving materials, and extending the service life of machine components. To help heat treatment workers better solve problems encountered in production, we extensively collected materials and combined practical production experiences to compile this handbook, which includes various heat treatment processes, heat treatment operations for different metal materials, quality inspection, common defects and countermeasures, and is both concise and practical. The first edition of the "Concise Heat Treatment Worker Handbook" has been in print for over 10 years since its publication, with 4 reprints, and has been well-received by readers. However, over these 10 years, a large number of new heat treatment technologies and equipment have been introduced from abroad, international heat treatment standards have been equivalently adopted, and new domestic heat treatment regulations and standards have been successively issued. In this context, it was felt that the original handbook should be revised, with most of the content rewritten, and new standards and advanced technologies added to make the handbook not only practical and reliable but also advanced. Therefore, under the organization of the China Machine Press, we revised and compiled the second edition of the "Concise Heat Treatment Worker Handbook." Compared to the first edition, the second edition of the handbook has the following additions and deletions in content: The chapter on material fundamentals in the original handbook has been removed and rewritten into heat treatment process codes and commonly used heat treatment terminology prescribed by the state; the theoretical knowledge of metallography has been removed, and only the basic knowledge of heat treatment processes is introduced directly; in the chapter on the heat treatment of structural steels, the heat treatment of cold-worked steels and low-temperature steels has been added; in the chapter on the heat treatment of special alloys, the heat treatment of powder metallurgy, cemented carbides, expansion alloys, and elastic alloys has been added; in the controlled atmosphere heat treatment, the process operation of air-based nitrogen protection is introduced as a key point; the chapter on chemical heat treatment of steel in the original handbook has been rewritten into two chapters: chemical heat treatment of steel in austenitic state and chemical heat treatment of steel in ferritic state, making the content more rich and practical; in the surface heat treatment chapter, flame quenching, oxidation, and phosphating, as well as laser and electron beam quenching, have been added; in the heat treatment of non-ferrous metals, the heat treatment of magnesium alloys and titanium alloys has been added; in the heat treatment equipment, vacuum furnaces, ion nitriding furnaces, and thermal measurement instruments have been added, and the application of microcomputers in heat treatment has been introduced; a chapter on heat treatment safety and labor protection has been added; the composition of steel in the entire book is unified in the appendix and no longer listed in chapters for easy reference. The rewritten handbook is more rich and practical in content. The entire book consists of fourteen chapters and an appendix. Cai Lu wrote the section on "boronizing" in Chapter 7 and co-wrote Chapter 10 with He Weiqin; Huang Yuming wrote the section on "application of microcomputers in heat treatment" in Chapter 12; the remaining chapters and the appendix were written by Zhang Yuting. The entire book is edited by Zhang Yuting and reviewed by He Weiqin. Some illustrations in the book were drawn by Yang Hefang. Due to the limited level of the compilers, there are inevitable shortcomings and errors in the handbook, and we sincerely welcome readers' criticism and suggestions for further improvement.
Compilers
This handbook is a revision of the 1987 edition, with revisions and updates made in content in line with the development of heat treatment technology both domestically and internationally. Most of the content has been rewritten, truly reflecting its practicality, reliability, and advanced nature. The entire book has been changed from 11 chapters to the current 14 chapters, with the main content including: heat treatment process codes and terminology; basic knowledge of heat treatment; heat treatment of structural steels and parts; heat treatment of tool steels; heat treatment of special steels and alloys; controlled atmosphere heat treatment and vacuum heat treatment; chemical heat treatment of steel in austenitic state; chemical heat treatment of steel in ferritic state; surface heat treatment; heat treatment of cast iron; heat treatment of non-ferrous metals; heat treatment equipment and thermal instruments; heat treatment safety and labor protection; hardness testing. At the end of the book, there are 8 commonly used heat treatment worker reference materials. During the writing process, attention was paid to adopting newly promulgated national standards, departmental standards, and relevant enterprise standards. The content is expressed in table form as much as possible for clarity and ease of reference, which is a major feature of this handbook. This handbook is suitable for heat treatment workers and can also be used as a reference for technical personnel in factories, research units, and for teachers and students in universities, colleges, and technical schools majoring in materials and heat treatment.
