Features: This textbook can be used as a teaching material for physics (mechanics part), theoretical mechanics, and engineering mechanics in universities and colleges majoring in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, water conservancy, aeronautics, and mechanics, as well as a self-study book for relevant technical personnel. This textbook is the Chinese translation of the third edition (metric) of Vector Mechanics for Engineers published by McGraw-Hill in 1998. Its main goal is to improve the ability of engineering students to analyze mechanics problems in a simple and logical way, as well as to enhance their problem-solving skills in mechanics through a thorough understanding of fundamental principles. Some of the main features of this textbook are: 1. Vector analysis runs through the entire statics and dynamics, simplifying the derivation of fundamental principles of mechanics and making the solution of three-dimensional problems easier; 2. The mechanics of particles is taught before the mechanics of rigid bodies, allowing for the early study of simple practical application problems, while more complex concepts can be addressed later; 3. The text is divided into several units, each including theoretical content, examples, and exercises, which can be covered in one class; 4. Each chapter includes exercises that require computer programming to solve. This textbook includes two volumes: statics and dynamics. This book is the statics part, consisting of 10 chapters.
