What is the reason for frequent vomiting after a baby coughs?

Patient's question:

The baby is only a few months old, and I have been breastfeeding it. I think this is better for the baby. A few nights ago, the baby accidentally caught a cold when we went out. It has a slight cough. I noticed that if the baby coughs after drinking milk, it will vomit. I don't know why this is happening. Could you please explain why the baby keeps vomiting after coughing?

Doctor's answer:

Children have a weaning period. Now you can offer complementary foods such as rice powder and porridge. She might eat a lot, but ours loves rice powder the most, and it keeps her full. It's normal for children to eat every three hours. This shows that they have established a routine and portion size. A five-month-old child eating five to six times a day is normal, as long as she doesn’t cry or fuss and is in good spirits, there’s nothing to worry about. Spitting up can happen if she’s too active while nursing or if she eats too quickly. It’s not a big deal. Ours doesn’t spit up much yet because she gets restless while eating and has poor digestion, but as long as she’s growing and developing well, it’s not a concern.
