Why might the baby in the stomach have hemolytic disease

Patient's question:

My wife is O positive Rh, and I am B negative Rh. Also, my wife had a miscarriage in March, and we got pregnant again in July. When we went to the hospital, the doctor said there was a possibility of our baby having hemolytic disease. I would like to hear the doctor explain it to me. Thank you.

Doctor's answer:

Generally speaking, if the mother is type O blood and the father is also type O blood, the first child will never experience hemolytic disease again. The second child, however, has a higher likelihood of experiencing hemolysis. If the child's body has antibodies different from the mother's blood type, hemolysis may occur again, with a probability of approximately 11.8%. After the child is born, jaundice will persist at a high level, and the likelihood of premature birth is relatively high.
