What should I do if my baby's stool is dry?

Patient's question:

I don't know what's going on, but my child has been misbehaving lately and crying non-stop. Even the hospital check-up didn't help. What should I do if an infant's bowel movement is dry?

Doctor's answer:

In your case, it may be due to deficiency of body fluids and dryness of the intestines, where the loss of body fluids leads to the intestines lacking moisture, impairing their function of transmitting waste, primarilydry and hard stools, difficulty in defecation, and symptoms of fluid deficiency. It is also known as the syndrome of large intestine fluid deficiency.
Excessive internal heat in the intestines can be treated with Bian Nai Tong Cha. Some elderly people, when feeding babies, have the habit of chewing the food themselves before feeding it to the baby. They believe that this practice serves two purposes: first, to prevent the food from being too hot for the baby, and second, to help the baby chew the food, aiding digestion. It is possible that many elderly people still hold this belief today. However, this practice is actually incorrect.
