Features: With the reform and development of medical education in China, higher vocational medical education has flourished in recent years, becoming an important part of China's education system. It has cultivated a large number of specialized talents for society and played a significant role in the reform and development of China's healthcare industry. As a carrier of teaching content and methods, textbooks are the fundamental tools for teaching and the foundation for educational reform. The writing of this textbook is primarily aimed at cultivating assistant practicing physicians for rural and community hospitals; its fundamental task is to train applied specialized talents for higher vocational education; and it follows the principles of "Three Basics" (basic theory, basic knowledge, and basic skills) and "Five Qualities" (ideological nature, scientific nature, advanced nature, heuristic nature, and applicability).
In terms of content, the textbook focuses on covering the basic requirements of courses in neurological and psychiatric diseases, as well as the content specified in the "Outline for the Assistant Practicing Physician Examination." It emphasizes common and frequently occurring diseases, determining the appropriate ( means "" in Chinese, which refers to the length or space allocated to each disease) for each disease and providing a thorough explanation, while also introducing recent research progress. Unlike specialized education, the theoretical knowledge is designed to be "necessary" and "sufficient," differing from secondary vocational education in that it emphasizes the cultivation of high-tech applied talents with a certain depth and breadth, highlighting specificity and practicality, which reflects the characteristics of this textbook.
During the writing process, the textbook minimizes disciplinary awareness and emphasizes the organic integration and overall optimization of all textbooks. After thorough discussions by the editorial committee, coordination and division of labor were carried out between this textbook and others to avoid unnecessary repetition while preventing the omission of important content. For example, parts of the history-taking and examination methods for neurological diseases are detailed in the textbook on Diagnostics, so this textbook does not focus on them. The content on psychological stress and psychosomatic diseases, as well as psychological therapy for psychiatric diseases, are covered in the textbook on Medical Psychology, so they are not included in this textbook.
This textbook is divided into two parts—neurological diseases and psychiatric diseases—with a total of 21 chapters. It is written according to the specific content and format of the textbook and underwent mutual review and proofreading after the initial draft was completed.
