Gauguin's Last Tahiti

Author: Zhong Wenyin

Publication Date: 2003-01-01
Features: This series of books has been in the works for many years. When we first conceived the idea, there weren’t many travel writing and study books available in the market. Later, with the birth of the "Walking" program, bookshelves were suddenly filled with shelf after shelf of travel books. But we still believe that with creativity, there will be space for oneself, there will be a place in the world, and there will be readers who appreciate each other. The editorial philosophy of the "Nine Miles Travel Book Series" follows a few guiding principles: originality, literary quality, and artistic excellence. Therefore, this series differs from typical picture books, as most travel picture books are still "illustrated editions" in the traditional sense, a format that has existed for centuries. We hope the "Travel Book Series" can bring both content and form to readers something completely fresh and original.
In the last decade of his life, the 19th-century Impressionist master Paul Gauguin, weary of the erosion of human nature by modern civilization, fled continental Europe and came to the Polynesian islands in the Pacific. There, the artist, facing the blue sky, the sea, plants, stones, and even women brimming with primal energy, tapped into his true self and created numerous works of distinctive style. Nearly a century later, a talented Taiwanese woman embarked on this travel destination to seek the traces of Gauguin’s dream. Breathing the life force of a master of his caliber, she used her uniquely captivating brushwork to and highlight the artist’s independent spiritual world, separate from Western civilization.
