Does the baby become sleepy after taking calcium?

Patient's question:

The child just born doesn't know what's wrong, there are always red spots on their body, and they are spitting up milk. Please ask if infants become sleepy after taking calcium.

Doctor's answer:

Generally not, calcium supplementation requires a calcium absorption issue. If absorption is poor, the baby may also be calcium-deficient. Calcium supplementation is best taken at night and should not be taken with milk or complementary foods, as this would only result in a 30% absorption rate.
1. The child frequently complains of abdominal pain, especially around the umbilical area, and enjoys rubbing the area. When not in pain, they continue to play as usual.
2. The child easily wakes up during the night, grinds their teeth, and drools.
3. On the child's face and neck skin, there are often pale, round or oval patches with fine, greyish-white scales, commonly known as "bug spots."
