Features: The classics of Western philosophy are countless, even the most learned scholars cannot read through all of them. Therefore, reading classics can only be selective. There are many selected editions of Western philosophy classics abroad, with different selected content. Based on reference to various selected editions and considering the situation of Chinese readers, I compiled this selected reading. I have carefully selected these chapters from Western philosophy classics, and it was done with careful consideration. The original intention of compiling this book is to introduce the great works of the greatest philosophers to the readers. The authors of the classic works selected in this book, such as Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Thomas, Descartes, Hume, Kant, and Hegel, are undoubtedly the greatest philosophers in the history of Western philosophy. They are also representative philosophers. Among them, Plato and Aristotle represent the tradition of ancient philosophy, Augustine and Thomas represent the tradition of medieval philosophy (a tradition often overlooked by modern people), and the last four represent different traditions of modern philosophy—the rationalist, empiricist, transcendentalist, and absolute idealist traditions.
