How to deal with newborn jaundice detected at 17

Patient's question:

The child just born doesn't know what's going on, there are always red spots on their body, and they are spitting up milk. Please ask how to handle it if the newborn jaundice test result is 17.

Doctor's answer:

Your condition may be due to physiological jaundice. In mild cases, jaundice appears as a light yellow hue limited to the face and neck, or may extend to the trunk, with sclera also becoming yellowish. It typically resolves within 2 to 3 days, and the skin color returns to normal by the 5th to 6th day. In severe cases, jaundice similarly starts on the head and spreads to the feet, affecting the entire body. Vomitus and cerebrospinal fluid may also turn yellow, with the duration lasting more than a week. In some premature infants, it may persist for up to 4 weeks, with the stool still appearing yellow and no bilirubin in the urine. It is recommended to use blue light therapy, which can be effective.
