How to handle newborn jaundice with a value of 15 after one month

Patient's question:

My baby is a premature child, and I was very concerned about the child's condition from the beginning. Recently, the child has experienced a series of issues, and I am very worried, fearing that the child's condition may worsen. Please advise on how to handle a baby with jaundice at 15 days old.

Doctor's answer:

Your condition may be physiological jaundice. In mild cases, it appears pale yellow, limited to the face and neck, or may affect the trunk, and the sclera may also turn yellow. It usually subsides within 2 to 3 days and returns to normal skin color by the 5th to 6th day. In severe cases, jaundice can spread from the head to the feet, affecting the entire body. Vomitus and cerebrospinal fluid may also turn yellow, with the duration lasting more than a week. In some premature infants, it may persist for up to 4 weeks, with yellow stools and no bilirubin in the urine. It is recommended to use blue light therapy, which can be effective.
