A five-year-old child has a fever of 39.4 degrees Celsius. How to reduce the fever?

Patient's question:

Lately, my boss has said that I'm not in good spirits and it's affecting my work performance. Actually, I don't want to, either. I always can't sleep at night, and sometimes I feel my heart racing and feel uncomfortable. If it gets worse, I'm worried it will affect my health and work.
How should I lower the temperature for a 5-year-old child who has a fever of 39.4 degrees?

Doctor's answer:

Fever should be treated urgently using cold compresses and sponge baths to lower the child's body temperature as quickly as possible. A cold, wet towel can be placed on the forehead. Alternatively, use a waterproof plastic bag filled with ice wrapped in a dry towel to cover the head and neck; applying it to the armpits and groin areas will be even more effective. You can dilute 75% alcohol with an equal amount of water and use a small towel to dampen it, then wipe the head, neck, armpits, chest, back, and limbs.
