Features: This book comprehensively and systematically introduces the fundamental theories, methods, and main applications of signals and systems, forming a more complete content system. It has the following distinctive features:
(1) The entire book unfolds the content of continuous-time signals and systems and discrete-time signals and systems in a completely parallel manner, chapter by chapter and section by section, using the methods of duality and analogy;
(2) It primarily adopts the input-output description method for signal and system problems, introducing and discussing the concepts, theories, and methods of "system analysis and synthesis" and "signal analysis and processing" in the order of time domain followed by transform domain (frequency domain and complex frequency domain), as well as their main applications in fields such as communication and signal processing;
(3) Under the proposition "Transform domain representation of signals and systems," it introduces continuous-time Fourier transform, Laplace transform, and z-transform within a unified mathematical framework, emphasizing the role of the properties of these transforms in the theory, methods, and applications of signals and systems;
(4) After briefly introducing the basic overview and methods of state variable representation, it focuses on the relationship between state and variable representation and the two other representation methods, input and output;
(5) The entire book takes two major types of systems as the primary objects of research and discussion: well-performing linear time-invariant systems and systems described by differential equations or difference equations;
(6) The book particularly emphasizes the role of basic signals and basic systems in the theory and methods of signals and systems. The book consists of 9 chapters, including: Introduction, Mathematical description and basic properties of signals and systems, Convolution of signals and time-domain analysis of linear time-invariant systems, Systems described by differential equations and difference equations, Transform domain representation of signals and systems, Properties of transforms and the relationships they reveal between the time domain, frequency domain, and complex frequency domain, Transform domain analysis of systems, Main applications of the theory and methods of signals and systems, and State variable analysis of systems. Each chapter includes a sufficient number of carefully selected examples, covering both basic exercises and problem-solving and analysis techniques. Additionally, each chapter is accompanied by a moderate number of diverse and rich exercises at the end. This book can serve as a textbook for "Signals and Systems" courses in fields such as communication and electronic engineering, automation, computer science, and all electrical engineering disciplines. It can also be used as a reference book for postgraduate courses in all engineering fields and for other professional graduate students, teachers, and in fields related to information acquisition, conversion, transmission, processing, and information systems.
