A Collection of Materials on "Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio"

Author: Zhu Yixuan (Editor)
Publisher:
Publish Date: November 1, 2002
Features: The materials collected in this book are divided into four parts based on their content:
(1) The Story Collection, which compiles the sources that the author may have referred to when writing Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. By comparing these materials with the relevant stories, we can better understand the author's creative process. However, since some of the tales in Strange Tales are based on actual events or rumors of the time and often coincide with others' records, we have also included the accounts of Pu's contemporaries and later citations for reference.
(2) The Author Section, which compiles materials related to the author's life, thoughts, and writings.
(3) The Editions Section, which compiles materials related to the versions of the novel.
(4) The Criticism Section, which compiles reviews of the novel after its publication by various scholars.
(5) The Influence Section, which compiles materials on the influence of Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio on fiction and theater.
The lower limit of the materials collected in this book generally extends to the May Fourth Movement. A few entries, due to special needs, exceed this time frame. For each piece of material, the book indicates the author, volume number, and the edition used as a reference (for the same book, if more than two entries are cited, the edition is noted only under the first entry).
