Features: Due to Eileen Chang, the world has once again revisited Hu Lancheng. In reality, this man's talent was no less than that of the talented Ms. Chang, yet he remained silent and suppressed by the times until now. This Life, This World was finally officially published in mainland China. A man, with his delicate and graceful pen, slowly recalled his long life, starting from the memories of his hometown—a peach-blossom-filled Jiangnan town with lush mulberry trees by the paths, lively opera performances, and the splendor of flowers during the New Year's Eve. There were also the lingering sentiments of traditional weddings. Yet once he left, he never returned home throughout his life. "I was not only a roamer to my hometown but also to the years." Meeting The Women of the Republic Eileen Chang was merely a non-deeply engraved episode in his life, but for her, she believed she had found the only soulmate who cherished and pitied her in this life. However, it turned out to be just a misunderstanding, and the roamer drifted further into a distant foreign land.
The turbulence of his later life was driven by the times, and the Hu Lancheng known to most was inextricably linked to the word "traitor." In truth, he was nothing more than a pure scholar. Eileen Chang and I were just like this. In the world, there is no mountain too high or sea too deep—high mountains and vast seas are almost unsuitable for romantic affairs. Neither of us had ever thought of getting married. But Yingdi divorced me, and only then did we marry. That year, I was 38, and she was 23. To avoid her being dragged down by future political changes, I did not hold a ceremony but simply wrote a marriage contract to formalize it. Though we were married, it was as if we had never been. I refused to let her life change in any way because of me. No matter how we tried, we never acted like a married couple, yet one remained a golden child, and the other a jade maiden.
