Features: In a dry summer, a reservoir in a remote valley of Yorkshire dried up, revealing the ruins of a former village. One day, while playing in the ruins, a boy named Adam accidentally discovered a skeleton. Forensic identification revealed that the deceased was a young woman who had been murdered fifty years ago. Detective Chief Banks and the beautiful female detective Anne were assigned to investigate the case. As their investigation deepened, they found that some people living today were connected to the case in various ways. During World War II, the young and beautiful Graciana lost her family in the German bombing of London. She moved from London to this remote mountain town. In this isolated small town, her beauty and her unconventional nature attracted the attention of many people. Many men with various intentions surrounded her—eccentric painters, unrestrained American soldiers, and her former lover, Matthew, who had survived the Japanese prisoner of war camp and was mentally unstable. One day, Graciana suddenly disappeared from the town, and Matthew soon took his own life. No one knew the truth. The news of the case shocked Vivian, a popular female detective novelist from her hometown. The process of solving the case and Vivian's memories revealed a suspenseful and heartbreaking love story. The novel ends abruptly with an astonishingly strange truth coming to light. Uninterrupted autumn rain poured down, the rain trickled into the dried-up reservoir, and the once tragic village was once again silently submerged under the shimmering water.
