What tests are needed for children with epilepsy?

Patient's question:

My daughter has had a second seizure. The last electroencephalogram results were not good! What tests do I need to do this time?

Doctor's answer:

Epilepsy does not have specific diagnostic value on an electroencephalogram (EEG). Approximately 30% of normal individuals show abnormal results on an EEG. During the non-epileptic period, some EEGs in epilepsy patients may appear normal. The causes of epilepsy are very complex. They include difficult birth during delivery, various reasons leading to brain hypoxia, trauma, high fever, brain inflammation, and genetic factors. You can undergo a brain imaging test, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), to identify the cause. Most cases can be cured.
