Is it normal for the stuff on the baby's face, like prickly heat, to not have fallen off yet?

Patient's question:

Baby is 8 days old, the rash on their face, which looks like heat rash, hasn't gone away yet. Is this neonatal erythema? I thought it would disappear in just two or three days. This is still heat rash, but I can't tell for sure.

Doctor's answer:

The baby has developed eczema. Eczema is a self-limiting condition that tends to recur intermittently and is related to the child's inherent constitution. It usually gradually decreases or disappears between 6 to 12 months. If the eczema is severe, temporary medication can be used; if it is mild, no treatment is necessary. Regular care should be enhanced, good hygiene should be maintained, and sweating should be minimized. If it is noticed that the eczema worsens after consuming certain foods (including the mother's diet if breastfeeding) or after touching certain objects, appropriate prevention measures should be taken.
