What are the symptoms of seizures in children?

Patient's question:

Hello, the baby in my aunt's family is 3 years old this year. Sometimes they have seizures and roll their eyes. I don't know if it's epilepsy. What are the symptoms of childhood epilepsy? I want to learn more and see if the child in my aunt's family has epilepsy.

Doctor's answer:

3. Focal seizures in children, also known as simple partial motor seizures,
manifest as brief, intermittent twitching or numbness/tingling sensations on the opposite side of the mouth corner, eyelid, fingers, toes, one side of the face, or extremities. The twitching may sometimes extend from the fingers to the upper limb and across to the opposite side. Symptoms last more than a few minutes, and consciousness is not lost during the seizure.
4. Myoclonic seizures
Children may exhibit sudden, forceful, and rapid contractions of a single muscle or muscle group. Some cases are localized, while others can cause twitching in one or both limbs. Objects held in the hand may fall out or be flung away during the twitching. When the trunk muscles are affected, it may manifest as sudden, frequent nodding, bending forward, or arching backward. Standing may suddenly lead to a fall.
5. Childhood absence epilepsy
Absence seizures typically occur in children aged 5–7 years and are characterized by abrupt onset and termination of brief episodes of impaired consciousness.
