Patient's question:
Why are the ALT and AST levels high in a four-month-old baby? How should it beDoctor's answer:
Don't hurry, it's not necessarily liver disease, because when the baby is just born, due to the large destruction of red blood cells and the liver enzyme system not being fully developed, physiological jaundice may occur. The level of ALT is generally twice as high as that of adults, and it only drops to about the same level as adults when the baby is 5 months to 1 year old. So, a high level of AST in babies doesn't necessarily mean liver disease.
