When will the baby get the second hepatitis B vaccine after being born for a few days?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: I would like to ask, the baby received the first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine immediately after birth. After discharge, how long should it wait before receiving the next dose? Should it be counted from the date of birth as 30 days or 42 days?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, newborns should receive one dose of recombinant hepatitis B vaccine via intramuscular injection as soon as possible (within 8 hours) after birth. The injection site should be the deltoid muscle of the upper arm (the same for children and adults). One month later, another dose should be administered, and then another dose six months later. In total, three doses are required. This schedule is known as the 0, 1, 6 schedule.
It is recommended that the child continue to receive vaccinations according to the program. If any doses are missed, they can be made up by receiving additional doses, and there is no need to restart the vaccination series. Live attenuated vaccines must be administered with a 28-day interval.
