How to Adjust for Baby Constipation

Patient's question:

My baby is 3 months old. A few days ago, she had some constipation and didn't have a bowel movement for up to 2 days. I used soap to insert into her rectum, and then she had a bowel movement. For the following days, I gave her a little honey water every day, and she had a bowel movement once in the morning for two days. However, she didn't have a bowel movement for another two days. On the third day, in the morning, I used soap to insert into her rectum again, and she had three bowel movements by 3:00 PM. The third bowel movement was a bit watery. After the first and third bowel movements, she immediately fell asleep.
I want to ask if using soap has any effect on the baby? What are some better suggestions for my baby's condition? I hope everyone can give some advice. Thank you.

Doctor's answer:

1. Massage
Place your palm downward and gently rub in a clockwise direction on the baby's navel. This can speed up intestinal peristalsis, promote bowel movement, and aid digestion.
2. Suppositories
Have the baby lie on their side, then cut off the tip of the suppository, ensuring the opening is smooth to avoid irritating the baby's skin. Insert the tip of the suppository into the baby's rectum, gently squeeze the plastic bulb to push the medication into the rectum, and then remove the empty suppository shell. Place a clean tissue paper at the baby's rectum to prevent the liquid from leaking and soiling the clothes or bedding. Try to keep the medication in the baby's body for as long as possible to fully stimulate the intestines, soften the stool, and achieve the best laxative effect.
3. Glycerin Suppositories
Open the packaging of the glycerin suppository and gently insert it into the baby's rectum. Press the rectum lightly and hold it in place for as long as possible to allow the suppository to melt completely before encouraging the baby to have a bowel movement.
4. Soap Sticks
Cut a piece of soap into a conical shape, about 3 cm long and pencil-thick. Moisten the soap stick slightly with water, then gently insert it into the baby's rectum and try to keep it in place for a longer period to fully promote intestinal peristalsis.
