Patient's question:
First, thank you for making me happy, doctor. Your guidance made me sure that yesterday's test was incorrect. It seems that today's doctor has a strong confidence in the diagnosis. The child's current symptoms are intermittent headaches, fever, and eye pain. The highest temperature reached 38 degrees, and headaches and eye pain started when the fever began. Today, another hospital's doctor ordered a thermographic imaging, diagnosed it as neuralgia, prescribed medication, and administered intravenous fluids.Thank you for your help!
Doctor's answer:
Hello: Treatment of Neuralgia Headache:1. Actively prevent and treat various underlying diseases.
2. Symptomatic treatment:
During an attack, one of the following methods can be used as early as possible to relieve pain: oral administration of ergotamine caffeine 0.1-0.2g, with an additional 0.1g if ineffective after 30 minutes. The daily total should not exceed 0.6g. Intramuscular injection of ergometrine 0.2-0.5mg, which can be repeated after 1 hour if ineffective. Intramuscular injection of huperzine 4-5mg or slow intravenous injection of 2-6mg (dissolved in 40ml of 50% glucose). Subcutaneous blockade of the dilated temporal arteries with 0.5% novocaine, etc. Ergot preparations should be avoided in patients with arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular or peripheral vascular diseases, or during pregnancy.
3. During the intermission period, to prevent attacks, one may choose from: vitamin B6 (20-30mg), propranolol (10-20mg), huperzine (1-4mg), or cyproheptadine (0.5-1mg), three times daily. Alternatively, one may take ergotamine butalbital (initial dose 0.5mg, gradually increased to 1-2mg, twice daily, not exceeding 6 months), huperzine (1-4mg), or cyproheptadine (0.5-1mg), three times daily. Kudzu root tablets, Ligusticum injection, and other treatments also have certain efficacy.
4. For severe patients with prolonged course, frequent attacks, ineffective drug treatment, and significant temporal artery dilation, superficial temporal artery ligation surgery may be considered if appropriate.
