It was reviewed and approved by the plenary meeting of the Second Veterinary Pharmacopoeia Commission and approved for publication by the Ministry of Agriculture. It is the second edition of the Veterinary Pharmacopoeia since the founding of the country. The "Chinese Veterinary Pharmacopoeia" is the national standard for veterinary drugs in China, a technical regulation for the quality management of veterinary drugs, and a legal technical basis jointly followed by departments involved in the production, operation, use, inspection, and supervision of veterinary drugs. The 2000 Edition of the "Chinese Veterinary Pharmacopoeia" is divided into two parts: Part I includes 469 types of chemical drugs, antibiotics, biological products, and various preparations, with 132 new additions; Part II includes 656 types of traditional Chinese medicinal materials and compound preparations, with 179 new additions. Each part has its own General Provisions, Appendices, and Indexes. Modern analytical techniques have been further expanded in this edition of the pharmacopoeia, with significant increases in high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, thin-layer chromatography, etc., compared to the previous edition. Due to increasing attention to drug residues in food animals, this edition of the Veterinary Pharmacopoeia has specified withdrawal periods for veterinary drugs based on domestic and international data, and these withdrawal periods will be gradually increased in future revisions. With the improvement of people's living standards, the number of pets has been increasing year by year. To meet the needs of pet medication, this edition of the pharmacopoeia has appropriately increased the dosage of drugs for small animals.
