Does a child with epilepsy cry and scream?

Patient's question:

The child has been crying a lot recently. Is it common for seizures in children to cause crying?

Doctor's answer:

1. In the symptoms of pediatric epilepsy, there is a type called laughing-cribbing epilepsy. This symptom manifests as sudden crying or laughing, with episodes lasting from a few seconds to a dozen seconds. After the crying or laughing subsides, the child returns to normal.
2. It does not necessarily mean that a child has epilepsy just because they cry frequently, as there are other reasons for frequent crying in children, such as colds, physical discomfort, or habitual crying due to certain events.
