Patient's question:
What are the intraoperative and postoperative precautions for spina bifida?Doctor's answer:
Spinal dysraphism almost always requires surgical treatment. If the cyst wall is extremely thin or has already ruptured, emergency or early surgery is necessary. For other cases, surgery is best performed within 1 to 3 months after birth to prevent the cyst wall from rupturing and the condition from worsening. If the cyst wall is thick, to reduce surgical mortality, the child may also undergo surgery after they are older (after 18 months). Postoperative care should focus on proper daily care, and rest is sufficient.
