Patient's question:
Child patient, 12 years old, in good physical condition. Just sometimes wet the bed at night, not easy to wake up.Doctor's answer:
Enuresis refers to individuals who experience at least one episode of bedwetting per week after the age of 5, and it does not include occasional bedwetting. There are many causes of bedwetting. Although some diseases can lead to enuresis in children, for most bedwetters, it is a functional issue. As long as parents pay close attention to their care and eliminate factors in daily life that may cause bedwetting in children, the condition can be corrected. Some children have a genetic predisposition to bedwetting, which is more common in boys. Often, the father of the child also experienced bedwetting in childhood. In such cases, bedwetting may resolve on its own during puberty.
Diseases that can cause bedwetting include: pinworms (stimulation of the urethral opening by the worms), urinary tract infections, kidney disorders, local inflammation of the urethral opening, spina bifida, spinal cord injuries, sacral nerve dysfunction, epilepsy, underdeveloped brain, and small bladder capacity, among others.
