Features: This book is not only a short-term effective vocabulary expansion resource for IELTS veterans but also an ideal reading material for those who want to rapidly expand their vocabulary. If you memorize all the vocabulary in this book, your vocabulary can increase by more than 3,000 words on the original basis. There are two effective vocabulary memorization methods for rapid short-term vocabulary expansion: memorizing words through reading and the root and affix method. In view of this, this book embodies the following features:
1. Reading for Memorable Vocabulary—By reading articles similar to IELTS reading passages from authoritative foreign magazines, you can understand and memorize key vocabulary based on context. Most of these articles are contemporary, and they 1) are highly timely. 2) feature natural language. 3) are engaging and highly readable.
2. Reduced Effort for Difficult Word Explanations—For difficult or important effective words in the text, concise explanations are provided, saving readers the trouble of consulting a dictionary.
3. Root and Affix for Less Effort—After each passage, root and affix techniques are used to expand vocabulary based on the original words. The selected vocabulary is generally effective, and expanding memory through roots and affixes achieves twice the result with half the effort.
4. Practice for Consolidated Memory—To reinforce memory, there are two types of exercises—fill-in-the-blanks and translation—after each passage, making the memorization effect even better.
5. Appendix for Fun and Quick Reference—The author’s carefully designed appendix offers readers valuable added services: Appendix 1 helps you easily consolidate vocabulary, Appendix 2 quickly breaks down English vocabulary memorization methods, and Appendix 3 allows you to easily look up root and affixes you want to learn or memorize.
