Features: From a young age, Pavlo was intelligent and eager to learn. Once, in the classroom of higher grades, he happened to hear the teacher explaining celestial knowledge and questioned the priest during a Bible class, receiving severe punishment. He was eventually expelled from school and started working as a hired hand in a restaurant by the railway at the age of 12. Pavlo was hardworking and enjoyed the sense of ease and stability gained through honest labor. With a sense of justice, he witnessed the dark side of life and the suffering of the poor, often fighting to avoid being bullied and gaining a reputation for his "fondness" for fighting. Through two years of arduous labor, Pavlo grew up, filled with hatred for the injustice around him. The Tsar was overthrown, the Bolsheviks came and left, the Germans and bandits committed numerous atrocities. In a rapidly changing world, two people entered Pavlo's life. Zhukhrai was a determined revolutionary vividly portrayed in the work. He taught Pavlo English boxing and told him that change required a group of brothers to stand together and fight bravely. Darya, the daughter of a forest ranger, met Pavlo and formed a deep friendship. The story of Pavlo and Darya falling in love and ultimately breaking up is one of the main plots of the novel. Later, Pavlo was arrested and imprisoned for saving Zhukhrai, and after escaping from prison, he joined the fight and became a revolutionary soldier. Amidst the gaps in the battles, Pavlo persistently read progressive books like "The Gadfly," cultivating a firm revolutionary will. In battle, Pavlo suffered a spinal injury, later losing his right eye and being unable to return to the front lines. He was discharged and returned to work at a railway factory. While working on the road in Boyarka, his feet and legs froze, and due to extreme cold and exhaustion, he contracted typhoid. Youth triumphed over death, and typhoid did not claim Pavlo's life. He threw himself back into busy work, and his relentless toil deteriorated his health, leaving him paralyzed in both legs and blind in his left eye, with only his right hand left to use. Pavlo felt desperate for no longer being able to join the ranks of fighters and even thought of suicide, but he ultimately overcame his cowardice and, with extraordinary perseverance, began writing. The manuscript was a success! Pavlo found a new weapon, and the steel soldier finally began a new life.
