Features: This book attempts to comprehensively organize traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) by gathering extensive literature on TCM from ancient and modern China and abroad. It aims to provide relatively complete and systematic reference materials for clinical practice, scientific research, teaching, and the integration of Chinese and Western medicine, as well as the creation of a unified new medicine and pharmacy in China. This work serves as a practical and applicable reference book for TCM professionals. The literature and reports on traditional Chinese herbs and medicinal materials across generations and regions are vast and diverse. Due to the complexity of varieties, there has long been confusion regarding names and actual substances, with conflicting or even contradictory accounts in the literature. These issues need to be gradually addressed through the application of various modern scientific methods, combined with production practices, clinical applications, and scientific research. This book is divided into two volumes and includes 5,767 traditional Chinese medicinal substances. It comprises 4,773 plant-based medicines, 740 animal-based medicines, 82 mineral-based medicines, and 172 processed products traditionally used as single medicinal units (e.g., cinnabar, spirit). If a single plant or animal has multiple parts used medicinally and each part has distinct functions, each medicinal part is treated as an independent entry in the book, organized according to clinical application conventions.
