Features: Preface to the Publication of the Facsimile Edition of The Great Series of New Chinese Literature
The Great Series of New Chinese Literature is a collection of theories and works from the first decade (1917–1927) of the New Literature Movement in China, edited by Lu Xun, Mao Dun, and others. It was compiled and edited by Zhao Jiabi of Shanghai Liangyou Book Company and published between 1935 and 1936. The entire series is divided into ten volumes, with a preface written by Cai Yuanpei and introductions by the compilers: Volume I: The Collection of Construction Theories (compiled by Hu Shi), Volume II: The Collection of Literary Debates (compiled by Zheng Zhenduo), Volume III: The First Collection of Novels (compiled by Mao Dun), Volume IV: The Second Collection of Novels (compiled by Lu Xun), Volume V: The Third Collection of Novels (compiled by Zheng Boqi), Volume VI: The First Collection of Prose (compiled by Zhou Zuoren), Volume VII: The Second Collection of Prose (compiled by Yu Dafu), Volume VIII: The Collection of Poems (compiled by Zhu Ziqing), Volume IX: The Collection of Dramas (compiled by Hong Shen), and Volume X: Materials and Indexes (compiled by Ai Ying). In June 1981, 20,000 sets were photocopied from the original books, and at the request of readers, another 3,000 sets were photocopied from the original books in June 2003.
