How to deal with a baby's fever

Patient's question:

Symptom Description: My baby is 22 months old. On the evening of August 9th, she had a fever of 39.5 degrees. After giving her Nimesulide, her fever reduced, but starting from the next evening, she began to cough and couldn't sleep peacefully, tossing and turning as if she was in great discomfort. I took her to the hospital, and the doctor prescribed Cefixime Granules and Ambroxol Hydrochloride Oral Solution, which she took for three days. By the 12th, she seemed better, but on the evening of the 13th, her cough returned. I have been giving her the medicine without interruption, but I am very worried and don't know what else to give her. Previous Treatment and Effect: On the evening of the 12th, she slept without coughing. Desired Help: Urgently seeking a doctor's advice to prescribe a suitable medicine for my baby.

Doctor's answer:

The normal basal body temperature of a healthy child is between 36.9℃ and 37.5℃. Generally, when the temperature exceeds the basal body temperature by more than 1℃, it can be considered a fever. If the temperature is below 38.5℃, do not give fever-reducing medication or administer fever-reducing injections. Instead, give the child more water. Pay attention to whether the room temperature is too high. Dress the child in fewer clothes to help them cool down. Soak a towel in lukewarm water (around 20 degrees Celsius), wring it out so it doesn’t drip, fold it, and place it on the forehead. Change it every 4 minutes. Alternatively, use a warm, damp towel to wipe the child’s head, armpits, and limbs. Currently, physical cooling is still the primary method—encourage the child to drink more water, ensure the room temperature is not too high, and avoid dressing the child in too many clothes.
