Plum represents the Plum God, and Snow represents Chang Gusu. Snow and plum are very closely linked in nature. The Song Dynasty poet Lu Meipo wrote a poem praising them: "Plum must yield snow three points of white, snow, however, lacks plum's fragrance." Another poet, An Jidao, wrote a poem about plum and snow: "The tree of small plum carries the message of the East Lord, near the flower festival after snow." Xi Juan leveraged the inseparable relationship between plum and snow in nature to design the relationship between these two characters. She constructed such a moving love story.
