Features: This book is developed in accordance with the specific requirements of the National Ministry of Education's "Teaching Syllabus for English in Full-Time Junior High Schools under the Nine-Year Compulsory Education Program" and the "Notice on Handling the Connection between the Current High School English Teaching Content and the Junior High School Compulsory Education Curriculum Plan." We have organized a group of influential senior English teachers who have long been engaged in teaching at the frontline, along with English experts from the Foreign Language Department of Beihang University, the School of Foreign Languages at Capital Normal University, the School of Foreign Languages at Peking University, and the School of Foreign Languages at Capital University of Economics and Business, to jointly plan and compile this junior high school English learning toolbook. This book has the following features:
1. Targeting the junior high school entrance exam while being practical. Based on the junior high school English teaching syllabus, this book determines the basic vocabulary and expands it according to the needs of various English textbooks across the country and the daily communication (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) of junior high school students, not limited to any single textbook. It is the sister volume to "1000 English Words for Primary School Students." While the most basic vocabulary from "1000 English Words for Primary School Students" is no longer included, some of the vocabulary that primary school students primarily need to recognize in terms of meaning is also included in this book, as junior high school students not only need to recognize the meaning but also learn how to use the words.
2. Emphasizing collocations for immediate application. One of the distinctive features of English is the presence of many fixed expressions, known as "collocations." The relationship between these words often lacks logical reasoning, and the phrases they form cannot always be understood by literal translation. As a result, they often become stumbling blocks for many junior high school students in their English learning. In light of this, this book includes a "Phrases and Idioms" section, extensively collecting commonly used and easily misused phrases in junior high school from both grammatical and lexical perspectives.
3. Comprehensive explanations with a focus on key points. Each entry is marked with phonetic symbols, part of speech, definitions, homophones, example sentences, and their translations. If there are synonyms or antonyms, they are listed after the definitions, and a "Special Notes" section is provided to give detailed explanations on special word forms, synonym discrimination, and more. The explanations emphasize both understanding and usage, with concise and clear usage notes, well-chosen examples, and the ability to teach by example. A certain number of diagnostic test questions are included to assess learning progress.
4. Engaging and easy to search. This book is arranged in alphabetical order with a lively and clear layout, making it easy to find. Some riddles, brain teasers, idioms, daily conversational phrases, and classroom teaching phrases have been appropriately included in the example sentences to enhance students' interest in learning English.
